Gluten free cafes in Sydney
A list of the best gluten free cafes in and around Sydney, with coeliac safety details.
Last updated March 2024
Sydney is full of delicious cafes but finding one that caters to the gluten free diet and does it well is not always easy. The trial and error process can be time consuming and disappointing so I’ve created a guide with the best gluten free cafes in and around Sydney that I’ve found so far.
Know of more I should include? I’d love to hear from you.
Sebastien Sans Gluten, Leichhardt
If you’ve been missing croissants, cakes, fruit danishes, lemon meringue tarts and more, then this gluten free bakery is for you. Sebastian Sans Gluten has a fantastic range of sweet and savoury baked goods, think; pies, sausage rolls, ham & cheese croissants, quiche, pain au chocolat, eclairs, tarts and plenty more.
It’s a fully gluten free bakery so coeliacs can eat fear free and there’s some vegan options too. These include vegan cinnamon scrolls, pain au chocolats and croissants.
Price wise, it’s pretty spendy — most things cost between $11 - $14 each — but worth every cent for that flaky pastry.
Wholegreen Bakery, Sydney CBD
Wholegreen Bakery is another fully gluten free cafe with fantastic sweet and savoury options. They’ve got pies, sausage rolls, sourdough, baguettes, fruit danishes, portuguese tarts, almond croissants and more.
The pork & fennel sausage roll is a personal fave; it comes with a tomato relish and is the perfect lunch, particularly in winter. On the sweet front, I regularly visit the CBD cafe for the blueberry custard danish. It’s generous in size and tastes delicious.
In terms of pricing, it’s about what you’d expect for a gluten free cafe. The sausage roll was $10.50, as was the danish. There are cheaper items available, like cakes and brownies around the $5 mark.
If you don’t feel like venturing into the city then they’ve also got cafes in Alexandria & Waverly.
Tequila Daisy, Barangaroo
Tequila Daisy is a Mexican cafe/restaurant in Barangaroo, Sydney. It has a heap of gluten free and coeliac safe options and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Every time they served a dish they’d let me know it was made in a coeliac safe environment — any coeliac knows this goes a long way to ease food anxiety when you’re far from home. The menu was also clearly labelled which made ordering a breeze.
The food was fantastic. We ordered guacamole, corn chips & pico de gallo for the entree, chicken tacos for the main and paprika corn for the side. The gluten free taco is the best I’ve ever had, it was soft, pliable and tasty. It didn’t fall apart when wrapped up, it was super flexible.
Price wise, I thought it was a little pricey but overall was happy given the quality. It’s about what you’d expect for a harbourfront cafe in Barangaroo. For the food above + one cocktail, we spent about $75.
