About

Having been coeliac for about three years now, I’ve realised the pursuit of a decent meal that resembles food I once enjoyed is truly never ending. Sometimes it’s not even the food I miss, it’s the convenience.  Eating on the go? A nightmare. Eating at a party? Hungry. Travelling somewhere new? Anxiety.

Luckily, coeliac awareness is having its time in the sun and slowly but surely, we’re getting more options in restaurants and half decent food in the supermarket. However, navigating this hellscape is still tricky. Between paying the gluten free tax at almost any venue (I’m looking at you, cardboard-tasting-$5-GF-pizza-bases) and dishing out $8+ for a loaf of dry bread — it’s still a grim reality for many.

That’s where GFG comes in. Since being coeliac, half my google searches are for gluten free food in whatever suburb I happen to be in. From there, hours are spent scanning menus for a GF icon and looking for disclaimers about cross contamination (side note — there’s a special place in hell for menus without dietary icons). It’s not how I love to spend my time but it’s the reality of eating safely.

During this, I’ve found that there’s almost no reliable resource for coeliacs. All I want is a comprehensive guide about what I can safely eat, what actually tastes good and if it’s going to cost my kidneys. So, here we are! Bit by bit, I’m eating and reviewing my way around Australia. If you’ve got a restaurant, cafe or product I should try then hit me up.
