Gluten free cafes in Camden

The best gluten free cafes in and around Camden, with coeliac safety details.

Last updated June 2024

For coeliacs and gluten intolerant people, finding a cafe that offers gluten free food that actually tastes good and is coeliac safe, can be tricky. There are no dedicated gluten free cafes in Camden, however there are a few cafes with decent gluten free options and most are aware of and use coeliac safe practices.

The trial and error process can be expensive and anxiety inducing so to save you the hassle, I’ve created a guide of cafes with decent gluten free options in and around Camden. For the coeliacs, I’ve also included details about each cafe’s coeliac safety practices.

Know of more that I should include? I’d love to hear from you.

Dessert Lab, Camden

If you’re craving gluten free mini dutch pancakes (who isn’t?) then this is the place to go. The sky is the limit when it comes to toppings, you can pick from; melted milk or white chocolate, caramel, nutella, butterscotch, lemon curd, whipped cream, ice cream and more.

For the coeliacs, you’ll be happy to hear these are cooked in their own side of the mini dutch pancake maker — however, always take your own precautions and be sure to chat with staff prior (but you already know this).

Other gluten free options include; banana bread and a few assorted cakes in the display.

Degani, Narellan

Degani in Narellan is a haven for gluten intolerant and coeliac people. There is a separate section of the kitchen that is used for preparing gluten free food (hallelujah) including different toasters, deep fryers and chopping boards.

There’s plenty to choose from with a full sweet and savoury menu across breakfast and lunch. Think brekky burgers, eggs benedict, chicken schnitzel, battered fish and chips and more.

A quick note — there is a Degani in Camden but this is no longer owned by the same people and does not have the same gluten free options or dedicated safe cooking space.

Sweet Treats by Rhi, Camden

If you’re craving a cupcake, you can get a quick fix and a delicious coffee here. Gluten free tim-tam chocolate cupcakes and gluten free cinnamon fairy bread cupcakes are on a weekly rotation here. These are also dairy free.

It’s worth noting, these are made in the same environment as regular cupcakes but all steps are taken to avoid cross contamination.

G free donuts, Camden fresh produce market (Saturday mornings only)

G free donuts serve up the best hot, fresh donuts every Saturday between 7am-12pm at the Camden fresh produce market. I know they’re good because my non-coeliac friends and family will go to the market specifically to get their hands on a donut. They taste just like the real thing — I promise I’m not exaggerating. The classic cinnamon sugar is my favourite but you can get them with the following toppings: salted caramel, nutella, jam or vanilla custard.

Honourable mentions

This is a takeaway fish and chip shop with a dedicated deep fryer for hot chips. It feels odd to list a seafood shop and then only recommend the hot chips but they don’t have a gluten free batter or crumb so the chips are the only gluten free fried option available. However, there’s plenty of fresh seafood on offer that’s worth a try.

Seagulls, Camden

This is a sushi train located in the outdoor food court of Narellan Town Centre. It’s often my go-to for a quick gluten free lunch. My typical order is the salmon volcano and the tuna & avocado sushi. There’s no dietary labelling on the menu but the staff do have a list they can share. If you ask for GF soy sauce, they can get you some in a small takeaway container.
